Person, not art

Description

Person > artist
and not just artist, anything else too
(we on deviantArt talk mostly about art, right?)

See, I'm not going to like you if you have good art. I may appreciate your work, but not you. Art doesn't make person. Person makes art. Fair enough, right? Sure, art reflects your mind and emotions, but not your character or how you behave in society. Sometimes quite the other way round -- you draw what you would like to become rather what you're at the moment.

But this stamp is more about loving random deviants just because they have 'damn so good' art. Clarification: you like their art. Not them. Some artists, especially those ones who are very good at their job, are not all that cuddly and friendly. It's because art takes you somewhere apart of the rest of the world. It's totally not about all artists, but, in my opinion, so-called 'true artists' are not going to be social. If you have a big passion for creating your own better vision of everything, why do you need the original things?

Well, I digress once again. So, in a nutshell:
1) work doesn't define a person. Art is work.
2) if you love the artist only because of their art, will you still love them if they stop drawing? Then you love the person.
3) person is much more appreciated than art, unfortunately for artists who want to find friends using art. Nobody is going to truly love you because of your art

My own drawing used.

"1) work doesn't define a person. Art is work. "

I have to say that I mostly agree with you on this, but a little part of me doesn't because often people will draw what they are interested in and sometimes what goes on in their daily lives. May art may not define me as a person exactly, but it might give you a window into how I view the world around me.
I agree with that my art doesn't clearly define me because there are things about me that have nothing to do with my art. I mean I have a couple drawings depicting people doing things that I myself would never do.

"2) if you love the artist only because of their art, will you still love them if they stop drawing? Then you love the person."
Well if someone stopped doing artwork I might go to their page and say something like "You have been gone a long time" or maybe I would just maybe wonder if they were going through art-block or if they were working on another project.
Sometimes people stop doing art because they lose interest or because they find they don't have the time or energy. My mom is an artist (I've been trying to get her to make a DA account with no success.) however she hasn't done anything lately because the work she is involved in wears her out.
Basically if I care enough about the artist than I will wonder what they are doing.
I should note that there are also people out here on DA who I consider my friends who have not put one single drawing up.

True. I try to realize that behind every picture I like there is a person there. I don't use my art to try to find friends I use it to simply express myself and because it is fun to make.
I do know of a couple of people who have actually been upset by my artwork.
